We are planning to do our first bathroom DIY project. We need to update most of the bathrooms in our house, and being the penny pinchers that we are, we are planning to do most, if not all of the work ourselves. We decided to start with the powder room on our main level since it will be a smaller undertaking and less of a disruption than our master bath or our kid’s bathroom.
Before we begin, I put together a mood board. We will wait until the Lowe’s and Home Depot Memorial Day sale weekends to order materials so we can hopefully get a good discount! To all of my military friends out there, don’t forget that Home Depot and Lowe’s provide a 10% discount with a valid military ID.
Lowe’s is much better about military discounts since you can get it with purchases online, whereas Home Depot will not give you the discount online, only in-store and there are a lot of items/departments where the discount doesn’t work. Lumber being one of them. Look into this more, but all-in-all, Lowe’s is more military friendly although we shop at both!

Updated: May 9 – We have changed direction on the design slightly. I ordered a different vanity, hardware, and we decided to go with a different flooring. We are going with a Lifeproof luxury vinyl plank wood look flooring that we used in our basement. We went with this decision as well foresee carrying this flooring throughout our main level in the near future and feel this will be less labor intensive with a seamless look. Demo starts this week!
