Simplifying Your Daily Schedule
Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom (SAHM) or a working parent, creating a daily routine can help organize your day and keep you to certain timelines. Activities can vary and things may need to be shuffled around depending on appointments, sports, work requirements, etc but by blocking things out, you create a framework from which you can work off of.
See an example of schedule blocking that I currently use.
Creating blocks during the day helps you stay on task and maintain productivity. By establishing tasks you can find areas within your day that you can fit them in. If I have to run an errand, I will either place it around the kid’s daycare dropoff or pick up when I’m already out.
I also try to implement an hour breakdown. I work hard on a task for 45 minutes and then I take 15 minutes to work on something else. If I have an assignment that I need to complete, I will set a timer and fully focus on that one task. I will then take 15 minutes to do something different. Enjoy a cup of coffee or clean up the kitchen, listen to a podcast or some music, play with my dogs, make a personal phone call, etc.
This helps me tackle procrastination and also gets me excited to get to my 15 minutes of freedom to work on something personal! Working from home can be difficult and making sure you can stay on task without getting distracted by house chores is easily done. Blocking out your time helps you compartmentalize while also giving you the time to get house tasks done.
